his new do

he's not too happy about it, but i think it will be nice & cool for summertime. he said he couldn't wait for it to grow & be back in his eyes..he looks so different. every time he gets a haircut, i wonder why did we do it?!?

here's another top i made gracie.
some work still needs to be done.
we went to the park today &
1/2 way through the top fell off.
the strap holes are a bit too loose.

papaw update: he's been feeling pretty rough. his throat hurts from the radiation & he's been weak. today damaw took him to the doc & they gave him an iv for dehydration. hopefully tomorrow, he will feel a little better.

gracie nursing update: she quit just like that! 2 weeks now & she hasn't even asked for it (i thought she would never give it up). the "owie" method of telling her they were hurt worked. i think karma got me & made them really hurt. i am finally feeling better, 2 antibiotics later. thank goodness!

a happy monday to all!

pretty little dresses for some pretty little girls

once again, i can not sleep. so, i sew...
tonight i was able to get part of a shower gift made, a birthday present, and a top for gracie made.

this white dress is for a cousin getting ready to have her 4th child, the first girl in their bunch!

this funky dress is for miss izzy, who is a week younger than gracie. her mom & i are also a week apart. we have been friends since middle school & i'm happy to call her my cousin in law. sara's a bit funky, so i hope she likes it and doesn't just think it's plain ugly.
i used a different old pillowcase for my bias material around the armholes. i also left it with a frayed edge, it made it easier on me & i liked the look.
to avoid a strangulation hazard with the tie, i've started sewing the ribbon in place on the dress. i read to do that somewhere, not my idea.

both of these dresses are special to me because they were made out of my grandma's old pillowcases. i think she will be smiling down from heaven at her great granddaughters wearing them.

deb, this one's for miss chloe. a very belated 2nd birthday present! i'm so sorry we haven't seen you in forever! i'll get it out in the mail this week, promise!

i made gracie a reversible swing top. i can't wait to try it on her & see how it looks. this was made out of some old 70's goodwill dresses. i didn't use a pattern, not enough patience for that of course. but, i think it turned out pretty good for winging it.

hope everyone is having a great weekend. off to bed to try & sleep....

insomnia

i can't sleep for the second or third night in a row. ugh. too much going on in my head...
i have my sewing machine back, so i've been messing around on it, which is sometimes frustrating but fun.

last night i made a bag. it's quite a funky bag out of some place mats and a tacky old tie. it's the perfect bag to sling over your body and carry the necessities. remember the place mats, karen?

tonight i made gracie a pillowcase dress out of a pillowcase from a yard sale this weekend. this is about the only thing i can make. here's some good directions on how to make one. you would think a former engineer could handle sewing with patterns, but i don't have the patience to even try.
i have an extra pillowcase & fitted sheet if anyone wants it!

here's my first "big" project i've sewn. i made a comforter for gracie's big girl bed someday. it's scrap chenille pieces & an old sheet of my grandparents is the backing. i used yo-yos to tie my knots in the comforter for some extra pizazz. there is a lot of character, aka mistakes on this blanket. but it was made with a bunch of love.

well, off to try & get some sleep...nighty night!
